Land Acknowledgement

The Township of Uxbridge is situated on the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Anishinaabe people. We acknowledge that these lands are covered under the Williams Treaties and are home to many Indigenous communities. We honour, recognize, and respect this nation and Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we now live, work and play.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Township of Uxbridge has adopted an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Blueprint as an important tool to assist us in creating a more inclusive, connected, and welcoming community. As a provider of public services, we have a responsibility to ensure all people are welcome and included in all that we do.

The blueprint also helps the Corporation of the Township of Uxbridge build a more inclusive and engaged workplace. We believe a diverse and inclusive workplace engages employees, strengthens teams, and improves organizational performance— and that means better service to our community.

This blueprint will assist us as we:

accelerate equity, elevate diversity and foster a culture of inclusion,
recognize the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada and reconciliation work needed in our community,
update the Township’s employment practices, training and resources to help employees understand how to support diversity and inclusion,
deliver accessible, inclusive, and age-friendly programs, services and facilities,
provide leadership to our community by denouncing discrimination, harassment and hate and providing opportunities to develop awareness, understanding and elevate the full diversity of our community.

Mandatory Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) anti-racism training for all staff;
Staff participation in dates of significance;
Community programs through Library highlighting mental health, black history month, various cultural celebrations;
Became a proud member of the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities;
Watch our 2021 Black History Month Feature;
International Women’s Day Event and International Men's Day Event, with over 100 registrants from the community;
